Where is the Market District® Cooking School located?

A:

The Market District® Cooking School will be located on the upper level of the new Market District® store in Robinson Township at 100 Settlers Ridge Center Drive.

What will the Market District® Cooking School look like?

A:

The Market District® Cooking School will be a private room on the upper level overlooking the Great Hall below. The state-of-the-art kitchen will be equipped with four complete hands-on cooking stations, plus an instructor station. Each cooking station will be fully stocked with appliances, measuring tools, cooking equipment, etc., and will simulate a home cooking experience. The cooking school will also have tables which will be used as seating for demonstration classes and dining. The tables can be raised to be used as work surfaces during hands-on classes.

What types of classes will be offered at the Market District® Cooking School?

A:

The Market District® Cooking School will offer both demonstration and hands-on classes. Classes will be taught by Market District® chefs, as well as guests, such as local restaurant chefs, nutrition experts, and cookbook authors. Classes will cover a wide range of topics and skill levels, including basics classes, "from scratch" cooking, ethnic cuisines, quick meals, baking/pastry, wine pairings, just to name a few.

How many people can take a class at one time?

A:

The demonstration classes will have a max of 18 people. The hands-on classes will have a max of 12 people.

How old do you have to be to take a cooking class?

A:

The majority of our classes will be for adults (18+). We will also offer some classes for kids in the following age groups: ages 5-8, ages 9-12, ages 13-17.

How much do the classes cost?

A:

Kids classes range from $15-25, depending on age. Adult classes range from $35-$65, depending on instructor and style of class.

Why should I pay for a cooking class?

A:

The cooking school is a brand new offering from Market District®! Classes at the Cooking School will be an in intimate setting, closed off from the rest of the store to avoid distractions. You will receive the personal attention from the instructor. For hands-on classes, you will be able to cook along side the instructor at a hands-on cooking station, really learning the recipes and techniques. For demonstration classes, you will be comfortably seated at a table and the instructor will go into more depth on each subject. The duration of the classes are also longer 2.5 to 3 hours depending on class type to accommodate the in-depth and hands on teaching format. For both class types, everyone will receive a recipe packet to take home, on which you will be able to take notes throughout the class. At the end of the class, you will receive a full meal. Adult classes will also be accompanied by a glass of wine, beer, or cocktail (type of beverage varies from class to class).

How do I register for a class?

When will classes be held?

A:

We will offer both morning and evening classes. We will offer classes every day of the week, except Monday, averaging about 7 classes per week.

Can the Cooking School be reserved for private events?

A:

Yes, you may book a private cooking class for your corporate team building, birthday party, bridal shower, gourmet club, etc.

How long will the classes be?

A:

Demonstration classes will last 2 ½ hours. Hands-on classes will last 3 hours. Wine pairing classes will last 2 hours. Kids classes will last between 1 and 2 hours, depending on the age group.

Will I need to register in advance?

A:

Yes, to ensure a spot in a class, advance registration will be necessary. Registrations will be taken on a first come basis.

I don't know anything about cooking. Can I still take a cooking class?

A:

Yes, we will accommodate people of all skill levels.

Will the new Market District® in Robinson have a demo station as well?

A:

Yes, the new Market District® will have a demo station just like the other two stores. This will continue to be a good resource for recipe ideas, cooking questions, and free cooking demonstrations.

Q:

How will the demo stations change as a result of the cooking school?

A:

The two current demo stations, plus the new demo station in Robinson, will remain the same. We will still offer the same great free cooking demonstrations and celebrity appearances. We will still also offer culinary experts to answer questions and provide delicious recipes.

Will the demo stations still have celebrity appearances?

A:

Yes, the demo stations will still have celebrity appearances with the same frequency as before.

Q:

What is the registration policy for adult classes?

A:

Reservations are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis. Class size limit is based on type of class. Hands on Class — maximum class size is 12. Demo style Class — maximum class size is 18. Payment is required on booking. All attendees must be age 18 or older.

What is the registration policy for child classes?

A:

In addition to the adult cooking classes, there will be 3 levels of classes for children. Parents will need to sign a consent/waiver upon registering for children under the age of 18.

  • 5 – 8 years old*+
  • 9 – 12 years old**
  • 13 – 17 years old

* The parent or legal guardian must remain in the store.
+ To ensure your child's safety, photo IDs are required upon drop off. Furthermore, the same adult who drops off your child must pick up your child.
** The parent or legal guardian is required to drop-off and pick-up the child.

Q:

What is the cancellation/refund policy?

A:

By Customer: At any time, you may send a substitute in your place. Any cancellation received within 72 hours of a class will not receive a refund. If notification of cancellation is received at least 72 hours before a class, you may change to another cooking class. A refund will be not given for missed cooking classes.

By Giant Eagle: Giant Eagle can cancel a class due to low registration for which a refund will be given. Customers will be notified 48 hours before a class is scheduled to begin.

By Instructor: If a guest instructor cancels a class at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances, the class will be rescheduled. If the class cannot be rescheduled, a full refund will be given.

What happens when a class is canceled due to inclemental weather?

A:

If class needs to be canceled due to safety concerns because of bad weather, each customer will be called at least 2 hours prior to the start of class. The class will either be rescheduled or a full refund will be given.

Q:

What should I prepare for before the start of class?

A:

Cooking classes start on time. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the start of class to sign in and present identification.

Closed toed shoes are suggested for Hands on Classes and aprons will be provided.

Most classes include wine or beer pairings. Wine tasting classes will be for customers who are 21 years and older. Must present valid identification. No exceptions.
